What are specialized ultrasound?

Specialized ultrasound scans are imaging studies performed with specific equipment and techniques that provide a detailed assessment of the reproductive organs, the pregnancy and the baby's development. Gynecological ultrasound gives a detailed view of the uterus, endometrium, ovaries and other pelvic structures, helping to identify conditions such as fibroids, cysts, polyps and endometrial changes; it can also assess follicular growth, ovulation, ovarian reserve and the response to certain fertility treatments. During pregnancy, maternal-fetal ultrasound provides a detailed assessment of the baby's development and growth, the placenta, the amniotic fluid and different maternal and fetal structures. At CEMPI, each ultrasound is performed according to the stage of pregnancy, the history and the needs of each patient.

Who is it indicated for?

Specialized ultrasound scans may be indicated at different stages of reproductive health, from gynecological and fertility assessment to pregnancy follow-up: menstrual cycle changes or abnormal bleeding, pelvic pain, known or suspected fibroids, cysts or endometrial changes, difficulty achieving a pregnancy, assessment of ovulation, follicular growth or ovarian reserve, monitoring of fertility treatments, and a history of gynecological conditions or surgery requiring surveillance. During pregnancy they are indicated to monitor the baby's growth and development and to assess maternal and fetal health.

Each scan has an indicated moment within the cycle or pregnancy; your physician will tell you the exact day so the study is informative.
